Technical Note: |
The board is equipped with a 20MHz Oscillator, providing a 80MHz processor operating speed due to the processor's internal x4 PLL. To operate programs from SRAM, you should use 1 wait-state. Please note that reliable operation of the SDRAM memory at 100MHz cannot be achieved with the AT697E device. The AT697E device is a 'engineering' device which Atmel has released in preparation for the upcoming 'flight' device AT697F. During final presentation day for the AT69E device at Estec, it has been publicly stated by Atmel that the SDRAM interface speed is impacted by the bus load on the memory interface. In other words the achievable SDRAM interface clock speed is a complex interaction of the device performance, board layout, and of the loading imposed by the SDRAM devices themselves. Typically this board runs satisfactorily with the 256MByte SODIMM delivered at a clock frequncy of 80MHz. The operating frequency of the board can be simply changed by exchanging the socketed Crystal Oscillator on the board. For more information on the SDRAM and memory interface timing and necessary timing derating please refer to the Atmel datasheet of the device: http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc4226.pdf Also, please note that there are a number of errata listed for the AT697E device which may need software workarounds: http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc4409.pdf |
